The new cd player in my boat keeps cutting off and turning back on?
It is a new sony explode 52×4 cd player and i have 2 140watt max marine speakers and two other marine speakers hooked up. i dont think the speakers are too much for the head unit. Could it be the ground????
This is an extremely common problem in boat installations. There’s no metal body in a boat to use for a ground path, unlike a car. Also, the wiring and connections are vulnerable to corrosion.
It’s definitely a problem with the power line; it might be the ground or it might be on the positive side. Because upgrading the ground connection means running a wire back to the battery, you might as well run a positive wire at the same time. It’s not any extra work.
I’d go out and buy a pack of 14-gauge speaker wire. Connect one wire to the negative battery terminal and the other to the positive terminal. (Put a 15-amp in-line fuse & fuse holder on the positive side between the wire and the battery terminal). Run this to your CD player location and use it for the battery and ground connections. If the red wire is connected to an external switch, it can stay there; very little current runs through the red wire, so it doesn’t need to be upgraded. If you’re not using an external switch, then just connect the red wire to the battery connection along with the yellow wire.
